trying out some colours with watercolour pencils- ill use this as reference for the final digital painting.

Im in the process of getting my first 12pg comic ready and coloured, the script is about 80% done, the main characters are nailed and ready to go... its all coming along.

The first issue takes place on a colossal airship, one that has a huge dining/dancing hall.

Think floating Titanic.

I think this sketch will help me with the final drawings, however I need some much more dynamic shots- I plan on using this sketch as a background painting in the captains cabin or such tho.

Mermaids rock.
Scanned in the first one, printed it out at 10% transparency and drew it again, this time making the hair look a little more like "seaweed dreads" ( copyright, me :p ), going to make a coloring attempt sometime soon!

also planning on checking out the River City Collectors Expo this weekend, just to see what thats all about, anyone ever been??

...I think I should also mention that I had just watched Mirror Mask for the first time, prior to doing this piece. I think it was an influence.

lol, im half wonky with sleep deprivation, BUT this movie was damn fine eye candy- they upped the anti about 4 shades since the original. kudos to gonzo studios.

people have been ripping on the storyline- but i had no complaints, be sure to check it out.

little animation project I was chipping away at over xmas, its on hold for now, but hope to finish it down the road- just experimenting with expressions/poses and such. The animation would be fairly simple with concentration on lip syncing a speech about my comic.

but at the same time i can't help but cringe at the powerful odour of corporate taint on this holiday.
anywho- here are some of the sketches i am planning on developing into watercolours, framing and handing out for some gifts- i have about 4-5 more to get developed, but ive got tons of time yet (words of a seasoned procrastinator)

chipped away at this one the other day, its based off another artists design, i forget the name, but ill post it as soon as i remember/find the guy. hes good.

Very bogged down with work right now, but not the fun creative exciting stuff, so ive got some sketches piling up, and at some point, (hopefully before the holidays!) ill get these things coloured and looking golden, always stuff to do...

revised design for the album, i like the texture, and cutout look for the cover, but ill keep printing processes into consideration for the disc- have a more print friendly take

I made a Tutorial!!

thought id try to make one of these i love when people show their process, heres mine for a vector drawing.

1. Sketch
I start with a guideline pencil, usually a blue or pink, I find these really help explore and have fun with a drawing before you discover whats in your finished piece.

2. Line Art
Vector baby, its a great medium, allowing you produce perfect prints and get some super clean artwork - photoshop is superior in many aspects, but i generally enjoy working with the pen tool, i think i just need to try more digital paintings

3. Base Colours
Lay down the foundation, at this stage you should try a couple different ways of colouring the piece, a great pallet can make or break.

4. Shading
shade this thing up, i usually use 3 shades for my colouring (one base tone, shadow tone and highlight tone) check out references for these, its quite surprising how much a couple plotches of highlight can really pop the image

5. Design
nothing helped my development as an artist more than studying graphic design, i like to texturize these days, makes the drawing more tactile but do what you will, have fun

yeauk, being sick sucks

finished version of a t-shirt design we sold at a keg party this weekend, think we got rid of them all, so "success". Fun times, but a hurtful morning after.
Shirts sold in pink and white-(below) Ill have to post last years poster I did for these guys... it was a nightmare, start to finish, much better experience this time.

Another fun poster design for work, pretty proud that we had this much fun working for the federal council.
I've been a train wreck health-wise the last little bit, rough weekend followed by catching some kind of crappy cold bug- bleag. it hurts productivity. On the up and up- Work has thrown me some great projects lately, couple fun logos, creative posters here and there, been nice
Personal work-wise, its been a bit slower, mostly due to the fact that im so scattered- i need to tackle things a little more head on rather than 8 at once...i just get excited.
but some great stuff in the works, it will all be worth it.
